Storage Access
in my Ioniq 5

Okay… okay… this post isn’t really about an “accessory,” but just a clever feature that I happened to discover in Rocinante. I didn’t see anything about this feature in the manual, nor in any of the online forums or YouTube videos, but I really appreciate its usefulness and simply want to pass along the information to other Ioniq 5 owners. In a nutshell, I found that it is possible to insert the floor of the cargo area into provided angled slots, and thus allow easier access to the storage areas underneath.

NOTE: You can click on the following photos to enlarge them.

Here is the cargo area of the hatchback when you open its liftgate. In this photo you can see that I have removed its rubberized cargo mat, and already rolled the cargo cover into its housing behind the rear seats.

I have found that, with the cover rolled in, if you slightly pull up on it vertically just a quarter of an inch, you can position its handhold portion upright, out of the way when loading and unloading cargo.

The floor of the cargo area actually has two hinged pieces, and you can fold the rear piece on top of the forward piece.

If you then pull the floor toward the rear, you will see some angled slots on both sides of the frame that supports it. You can then tip the floor upwards and insert its forward edge into those angled slots —as shown in the photo at the top of the page.

Voilà! With the floor mounted at that angle you can easily reach items stored along both sides and all the way to the back. As you can see, I have all kinds of paraphernalia in there: lots of grocery bags, first aid kits, umbrellas, a tire inflator, a stack of cleaning cloths, and the tire mobility kit (TMK) that was recently serviced with a recall. I might be wrong, but suspect that most owners have never even noticed those angled slots under the cargo floor, let alone realized their purpose. It really is a helpful design!
