Better HEPA Air Filter

I changed the cabin air filter in Rocinante 9 months ago, but lately we’ve experienced several days of very high winds and billowing dust at the same time there were those horrific wildfires in Los Angeles. I therefore decided to order and install another air filter, slightly different from the first one. This model might prove even better, not only because of its beaded charcoal layer, but also because it is set in a solid frame rather than one made out of soft cardboard. We’ll see!

As I explained with the last filter installation, you have to remove the access panel in the frunk.

This time I discovered an easier way to open that panel. Instead of pulling on the notch (indicated in red), I suggest that you first remove the rubber cover and then pull on the edges of the panel with both hands (in green). Much easier that way!

With the panel removed, you can easily see the filter compartment inside.

To remove its lid, just pinch the latches on the left side, as shown here.

You can then pull out the old filter from its slot.

Here is the old filter and the new one, side by side. I must say that the old one was a lot dirtier than I anticipated. It definitely needed replacing.

This is the new filter inserted into the compartment. This model fits more snugly, thanks to the foam edges around its sturdy frame, which will help stop any air from getting into the filter through tiny gaps around the sides, front, and back. I will also point out how dusty the other parts were under the hood, as you can clearly see in this photo. I'm sure glad we have good filters to prevent such dust from blowing into the cabin!
There is not much else to say, other than reiterate how much easier it is to change the cabin filters in Rocinante than it ever was in both of our previous EVs. All automakers should emulate this design!
