Texas Roadtrip

Narratives, Photos, and Movies

I had been planning to make this roadtrip to visit my daughter Amanda in San Antonio for several months. Unfortunately, several complications at home necessitated postponing the trip at the beginning of May. Several weeks later, another window of opportunity arose in June, so I decided to put rubber to the road and drove to Texas. I had a lovely visit with family, and then drove back home again. Both the outbound and inbound trips took three days each, so I decided to split my usual long-winded narrative into three parts, which you can open and peruse by clicking these links:

EV Data Summary

For those merely interested in the overall EV stats from driving our Ioniq 5 on this roadtrip, I have compiled the basic data in the following table:

Miles Driven: 2,917
kWh Used: 987
Average Mi/kWh: 2.96
DC Fast Charges: 28
Average Minutes per Charge: 15
Total Cost: $1.21

Since Rocinante came with 2 years of free 30-minute charges with Electrify America, I should explain that I had to pay $1.21 for one charge in El Paso, Texas. When I arrived there on the return trip, the only charger available had “reduced power,” and I consequently was connected for 2 minutes beyond the “free” session. In fact, I decided to unplug when Rocinante had reached a 70% charge to avoid adding even more minutes beyond the allotted limit.

Detailed Breakdown of the EV Data
