Point Distribution

The points in this course are distributed according to these categories:

Grade Calculation

Students sometimes ask if there is any way they can “look up” their grade. For security purposes, I do not post grades on the internet, but rather expect you to keep track of your own progress in the course by downloading and using a spreadsheet with formulas already configured for this class. Consequently, please do not send me requests to know your grade: that is why I provide you this tool!

Right-click (Windows) or control-click (Mac) on the following icon and then select from the pop-up menu the option to download the spreadsheet to your computer. The file is in Excel format, but you could easily import it to other spreadsheet software, if you prefer.

As you accumulate your points, you can enter them in your column (red) in the spreadsheet and immediately see what percentage you have at any given moment in the course. In fact, you can also enter ficticious “future” points for your pending tests and homework assignments to see what you will need to accomplish to achieve the final grade that you desire. This is an added advantage that would not be possible with a mere grade list on the internet.

Grading Scale

As you will see in your spreadsheet, final grades are determined according to a fairly typical scale of the percentage of points accumulated in the class:

93%-100% = A
90%-92% = A-
87%-89% = B+
83%-86% = B
80%-82% = B-
77%-79% = C+
73%-76% = C
70%-72% = C-
67%-69% = D+
60%-66% = D
0%-59% = F
